It is estimated that one third of the world’s population lacks sufficient drinking water and as a result much investment is going into desalination projects. However, traditionally the desalination process is energy intensive but now a bacteria-powered desalination cell that takes salt out of seawater should help to substantially reduce the energy needed to obtain fresh water from the sea, thus also cutting the cost of quenching the world's thirst. At Crazy Chameleon we are always keen, where possible, to try our clients green products and services. It was therefore with some anticipation that we took delivery of the Eco-Eye monitor. Put simply, a sensor attached to the output electricity cable sends a reading to a display monitor that enables you to monitor your electricity consumption in real time. Initially there was some novelty value in watching the impact of turning on various electrical appliances but now on a more serious note the visual display is a constant reminder to evaluate our usage and prompts us to review what really needs to be turned on and indeed off. Free Power for Schools.Deadline for applications is fast approaching 1 July 2011 - an initiative from the Eco-Schools Solar Programme.
